Traditional Chinese 信義線

The Taipei Metro Xinyi Line is a high-capacity, rapid transit line currently under construction. It is the extension of the Tamsui Line and part of the Red Line. Upon completion, the line will alleviate congestion on the Nangang Line by providing another east-west route through the Xinyi District. The line will span 6.4 km and have 7 underground stations, running from Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to Elephant Mountain.[1]

Line Construction

Tunnel construction between stations will use the shield-tunneling method, while other construction (stations, crossover track, etc.) will use the cut-and-cover method.[2]

The Xinyi Line construction progress is, as of July 2011, 66.26% complete.[3] Upon completion, it will take 11 minutes to travel from the Taipei 101/World Trade Center to Taipei Main Station.[2] A common utility duct was constructed along with the line, saving NT$44.64 million in the process.[4] Following completion of the line, dedicated bus lanes will be moved back towards the center of the road.[5]

A planned extension of the line will extend the line east along Xinyi Rd. and Fude Rd. to Zhongpo South Rd., and end at Yucheng Park. It will add 2 stations and 1.6 km (0.99 mi) of additional route length. The final corridor was approved on February 12, 2010.[6]
